Journées du Patrimoine : Exposition sur l'architecture civile de l'avenue de Paris

Eager to modernize the kingdom through new transportation routes, Louis XV had the royal road connecting Poitiers to La Rochelle built. Although it was routed away from the villages of Breloux and Chavagné, this road nevertheless marked a major turning point in local history, gradually unifying the two municipalities along its axis. Urban development along Avenue de Paris began modestly in the 18th century, then intensified in the 19th century with the arrival of the railroad in 1856. The resulting economic boom then spurred the construction of beautiful residences, featuring architectural styles characteristic of their era.
