Dolmens, tumulus… Bougon is the town in the area that bears witness to a Neolithic past! Among these megaliths, some of which are classified like the Dolmen of the Seven Paths, is an exceptional place.

Tumulus

Valued in a museum complex, Tumulus de Bougon shelter one of the oldest known necropolises. Around a mediation space dedicated to prehistory, you can discover these testimonies spread over more than 2 hectares.

A village to explore

In the village, don’t miss the orchard for safeguarding ancient fruit species. Laid out in a park, this walk to meet local or modern varieties is an ode to relaxation.
The “mare des antes”, a green setting by the water’s edge, ideal for cooling off, picnicking or simply enjoying a peaceful place to laze about!

To change pace !

Cycling fan  ? That’s good, on the outskirts of the town of Bougon, the Véloroute 94 traces its route! From Echiré to Argenton-sur-Creuse, this cycle route will connect the VéloFrancette near Niort to the Scandibérique, European cycle route (Norway-Spain).

Véloroute 94 is the best way to grasp the variety of landscapes that make up the territory of the Haut Val de Sèvre.

Go on foot !

Do you prefer walking? Never mind ! The rooad “Around the Tumulus” allows you to cross the centuries from the Neolithic to the present day, is that all ! Departing from the Tumulus Museum, direction the Bougon mill, the Saint-Pierre parish church, listed as a Historic Monument and surrounded by dry stone walls. On the road, you will pass the Bougon dairy.

Local goat cheese

In the village, the Bougon dairy is located in the heart of a valley. It is famous for making “Bougon”, a goat’s cheese packaged in a box made of wood. Today, under the direction of Poitou Chèvre, the dairy also produces traditional cheese specialties, such as Chabichou or Mothais sur Feuille.
