1815. Jean Valjean emerges from the penal colony, broken and rejected by all. Wandering aimlessly, he finds refuge with a man of the cloth, his sister and their maid. Faced with this helping hand, Jean Valjean falters and, in this suspended night, must choose who he wants to become.
